I have worked as a contingent faculty member within the university system for years. I have taught and developed courses such as Native American Philosophy (including an online version), Native Cultural Aesthetics & the Heritage Industry, Gender and Sexuality in Native North America, and Native American Art.
In developing these courses, my intention has always been to provide the Native American perspective because, all too often, it has been overlooked in traditional academic subject areas within the university system. I believe that all students, in general, should be exposed to perspectives and philosophies that are outside of their cultural upbringing and I feel it is a huge responsibility for the teacher to provide a learning environment in the classroom that is conducive to discussing and critically analyzing issues that implicate a wide audience.
